Appendix C: Developer Accessibility Survey Invitation
Multimedia accessibility has become a thorny issue that few in the development and museum communities have addressed. Over the past decade, much attention has been focused on creating accessible web sites that are welcoming and usable to persons with physical and sensory disabilities. Yet, multimedia development efforts have largely escaped this scrutiny.
As a graduate student in the Harvard University Extension School’s Museum Studies program, I am conducting this survey to gauge the attitudes and practices of developers and museum staff towards accessible online multimedia. A similar survey is being conducted amongst museum staff responsible for the creation of multimedia content. Your response will be highly valuable to my thesis research, and all identities will be represented anonymously in the results. A summary of the results will be made available to all participants along with several case studies that will detail how specific museums are negotiating responsibility for accessibility with their development team.
Your comments and feedback are greatly encouraged. If you are unable to answer the questions, please forward to this message to the appropriate person in your institution.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
